They sedated a dog with no permission just to groom it. Vets have lost their drive to actually care about animals.
-Upon requesting records (to go to a new vet), receptionist told me it was unnecessary to send them to me, since he was due for his shots anyway. WHAT?! After some persuasion I got her to email them to me.
-Also prescribed (by Schaffer) thyroid medication for a bad haircut--it was going back very slowly, unevenly, and discolored from the sun. Later I learned this is common with his type of coat. Thyroid medication is usually isn't a "go-to" for skin problems.
Great Service
We paid full price for the weekend of boarding and a bath and nail trim. They couldn't bathe him due to his ear. Not sure why we were charged for the bath...much less a full weekend of boarding. They tried charging me for pain pills until I called and asked for a refund.
[I've never had a bad experience with Sally Harper.]
We are disappointed about the entire incident, but mostly about how they handled it. They made it clear to me on the phone that dogs are only 'property' and these thing happen. I am very disappointed with the lack of sympathy, communication and apology.
-Removed declaws without permission while he was getting neutered (Schaffer), because apparently, "Hey! Might as well! He's already knocked out!" One got infected. I'm none too pleased.
Three bad experiences with one dog.
Excellent care for our animals. Very compassionate!
We took our dog for boarding for a weekend. Received a call that a larger dog got a hold of our dog's ear through the fence and that the vet had to 'repair' his ear. As it turns out, about a third of his ear is gone. We would have liked the vet to explain that when they called as it sounded more like a small tear that needed stiching. We were not expecting to see a large portion of his ear missing when we picked him up. We received no apology or information on caring for him while the remaining part of his ear healed. When I called to get more information, they made it sound like I should be happy he is alive. Since they deal with life and death daily, they thought I should be relieved that he was ok other than his ear. What we are most disappointed in is the absence of apology or telling us what fully happened. We only got this after a lengthy phone call initiated by us.
